Vacationing with Your Jewelry
Holidays are for fun! But what’s fun without a little (or lots of) flaunting. The designer dresses, the extravagant coats, the bold jackets, and to complement them all the exorbitant jewelry.
Jewelry that will steal the show at first glance and make you the most talked about person at the holiday destination. But unlike dresses that easily make their space inside the suitcase, jewelry is delicate and packing them can get complicated. So here are a few tips to remove one ‘complicated relationship’ from your life:
Start with the most obvious question – what do you want and what do you need? When packing for a trip, it’s a good idea to pick your jewelry according to the outfits that make your holiday wardrobe. But if you’re like most jewelry lovers, that only narrows your options slightly. Where do you go from here?
There’s no need to bring your entire jewelry box along for the trip, be choosy with them too! Firstly, pack your go-to jewelry that is easy to mix and match with any outfit. The shiny metals like gold or silver can give any outfit an instant glow up. If you’re more low-key, use black accents or white gems to go with your outfits.
Now, choose a singular colour palette for your jewelry according to the clothes that you are taking with you. You’ll make things easier for yourself if you stick to one portion of the colour wheel with your jewelry. After you’ve made your selections, it’s time to figure out how to pack them. Here’s what we recommend for different jewelry pieces.
For necklaces
You can use cloth pouches or plastic bags to put the first layer of covering. Followed by a wooden or old metal box casing that’ll prevent pressure on the jewelry. Alternatively, you can grab some shelf liner and place your necklaces on it, with space in between them, and then gently roll the fabric up.
For rings
You can easily pack your smaller rings in a medicine pill case that has separate days inscribed on them. For the larger ones, string them together in one loop and tie a knot. You can put it inside pouches, zip-lock bags, or jewelry boxes.
For bracelets
You should store your bracelets in a different pouch or zip-lock bag so as not to get it tangled with your necklaces. You can also create your own jewelry roll by rolling up a cloth and sliding your bracelets over it.
For earrings
Find a piece of thick cloth, thin enough for you to pierce your earrings through. If you don’t have any fabric lying around, use cardboard, or a sturdy piece of paper from an old shoebox and punch your own holes through it.
For a more elegant solution for a stylish wanderer like yourself, we recommend a travel jewelry case, because individual containers can be cumbersome to carry. Therefore, go for a stylish, sleek case that packs all of your jewelry for the vacation, in dedicated compartments. One place you want to be extra selective is your expensive jewelry – leave it at home if you can. You cannot completely rely on your hotel suite lockers, stuff stolen from these lockers make many horror vacation stories. So be careful and if you decide to go ahead with our hacks, then go extra creative and enjoy the process. Bon voyage!
